Today over 25 million Americans, the majority of whom are female, suffer from an ailment secretly stowed away “in the closet.” Many will not tell their best friends or their doctors. Over 50% of women between the ages of 42-50 suffer from some degree of this problem. The name of this medical condition that no one wants to talk about?

Incontinence.

Someone needs to tell these women there are now effective surgical and non-surgical treatments that can cure them. And, young women need to know how they can avoid some of the childbirth factors that are associated with future problems with incontinence.

After years together in private practice and after hearing countless confessions from their patients, William H. Parker, M.D., a Clinical Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at UCLA School of Medicine and attending physician at the Pacific Continence Center in Santa Monica, California and co-author Amy E. Rosenman, M.D., Associate Clinical Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at UCLA and co-founder of the Pacific Continence Center, decided to write a book entitled, The Incontinence Solution: Answers for Women of All Ages. Drs. Parker and Rosenman discuss specific topics on incontinence including the effects of child birthing practices and their influence on the risk of developing incontinence, the diagnostic tests for effectively treating incontinence, and non-surgical and surgical options that can help control bladder problems. The book also contains sections on how this condition may restrict a person’s lifestyle, affect their sexual relationship with their partner, and lead to other physical and emotional problems.

“We wrote this book to help educate women about how to go about getting properly evaluated and treated for incontinence. Incontinence affects women of all ages, but there is no reason why women should limit their normal everyday lives because of a treatable medical problem,” explained Dr. Parker. Dr. Rosenman says “women should no longer keep this condition a secret.

Symptoms can persist and get progressively worse if not treated and we hope we can open the doors to help incontinence sufferers get their lives back on track.
